Foraging Rules and Limitations

Mushroom foraging for personal use is generally allowed on public lands in Washington and Oregon but there are restricted areas and limits/permits that restrict the amount.

Generally allows up to 2 gallons collected per person, per day with your discover or day pass

Olympic National Forest

Allows up to 1 gallon per species per day,  Chanterelles must have a cap diameter >1" and all mushrooms must be cut (rather than pulled) 

Colville National Forest

Allows up to 60 mushrooms or 3 gallons (whichever is less volume) without a permit

Gifford Pinchot National Forest

Allows up to 2 gallons per day for up to 10 days per year with a Free Use Permit

Up to 1 quart per person when collected 200 feet away from nature trails, special trails and natural study areas
