Safe Eating for Foraged Mushrooms

Foraging for mushrooms can be a rewarding experience, but consuming them requires caution because mistakes can be deadly.  No wild mushroom is always safe to eat, foraging comes with risks.  Mushrooms can concentrate pollutants, migrate to unexpected areas, change appearance because of environmental or strain factors, and mutate unexpectedly.  Many mushrooms have not even been named, sequenced, and categorized.  No book or website can eliminate this risk for you.  You can lower the risks by following these steps each time you eat a wild mushroom:
