Search under and around the trees for:

Calypso Orchids are solitary, pendant flowers with  slipper-shaped lip, white or pink with purple speckling, yellow or white hairs, and bright pink to petals. These flowers signal the soil temperature is right for morels

Trilliums have a single stem with three broad leaves and three petals that begin white and age to purple/pink.  These flowers signal that the soil temperature is right for morels

Dead or dying Fir can be identified by the thick bark that is deeply furrowed, more than any other tree in the region​​
