Birch Bolete

Leccinum 

The flesh of Birch Bolete is white or pale when fresh and un-bruised, but turns blackish when cooked.  All Leccinum mushrooms are considered edible but some report flu-like symptoms after eating so make certain to cook these thoroughly and enjoy with caution: Learn how to eat a mushroom for the first time.

Leccinum scabrum aka Birch Bolete

Cap

yellow-tan to greyish brown, often developing an olive tint when mature. 

Pores

whitish when young, later grey to tan to brown.  Not bluing when bruised or cut.

Stem

creamy white to light tan with dark brown to black flakes
